Out of Soul

disclaimer : if it means something to you, you'll know.
Otherwise, it's useless to try to find a meaning.

Let's start.

The shed in Fragment 9

Fragment 1

Young man smoking in a bus, coming back home. The grass is yellow outside, the land is dry as in the beginning of a warm autumn -that's the case after all. He's watched quite despisingly by the other people in the bus -the "Why can't he be like us when we were young?" kind of look, or more exactly the "Why can't he have a boring life like us instead of reminding us there's a life out of here?" kind of look. But curiosity and talking habits are stronger and one asks confirmation of what he's doing for a living as if it was enjoyable -and it is, to a certain extent. Tired, short reply of the young man, assenting. Voice off, his own, saying that anyway, telling the truth would be a waste of time. No one would listen, or understand, especially not people who know nothing of it. In fact speaking of what he feels would only make it more uncomfortable for everyone. The ember brights red...

Fragment 2

"There's no reason why you should know of it"

Fragment 3

Northern forest, young man in leather jacket -Jordan-, tries to open the trap in the ground. The cat has gone yet but has taken the food. I come near and sit in front of him, watching him in silence while he deals with the lock. I finally ask if I don't disturb him. He slightly looks up to me, and his expression would mean "I'm too busy to laugh of your ironic question but no you don't, as long as you keep quiet and not too close". But the only thing he actually says is a vague "No". Then he opens the gate and enters the unerground realm -a kind of military complex. He's got work to do inside, and while he's there someone comes who shouldn't be in the "security area". A 10 or 12 yrs old kid, his son? Or not? Well, he shouldn't be there, but as long as Jordan takes care of him and makes sure he doesn't go in dangerous areas it's all right.

Fragment 4

"I'm not sleeping"

Fragment 5

Explosion. Pain as intense as brief since the body is nearly instantly destroyed. Death, then. Conscience starts to fade. But not completely: if I keep concentrated, I stay quite whole. Immaterial of course, I'm only a ghost now, but that's not a problem. Really not. In fact it's better. I can float above earth. Above water it's a bit more difficult -it doesn't "respond" as well as solid matter. I can watch, hear, and travel. And I can do the only thing I regretted to have to give up with life. What I could not do while I was alive. But it's a long way to go yet. And I'm quite new to this new existence. Gotta find some advice. And advice I find, on the way to the place I want to go. Someone I know but who doesn't know me. I follow him though I shouldn't be in the same place as he went to. What's this talk? Kind of father figure. Anyway. I tell him what I intend to do, and he says it won't be that easy, will take more time than a night. And day is harder for us dead essence to keep concentrated. Not impossible to face the day, it's just harder. But it may be done. And I want to go there before I let go. So I'll do so.

Fragment 6

"Anything hurts"

Fragment 7

You try to find solace, but every way you find just makes the whole stuff harder. Almost everything. Except one single thing. Then you finally reach a point where your main concern is no more a worry because you made it right, and you can get peace for a while. Feel free and smile. But it comes back. Fear surfaces, from inside now, and soon it's back to this terrifying anguish that has consumed you for years. And you're not sure you can fight against it anymore.

Fragment 8

"Care for the living ones"

Fragment 9 < June 03, 1997 >

Summer time, from the warm light entering the wooden shed like rays of gold. The girls are outside, I hear them laughing. I'm the messenger for the woman in front of me. Not bad news. I'm bringing them a realization, a piece of the puzzle they never saw before. It's unexpected but welcome, hopefully for the one who sent the message. It's what I had to do.

Fragment 10 < October 10, 1997 > (for this one I'm not really sure...)

Digging in a lost edifice, almost like a church. A young, blond-curled, angel-looking boy comes to help us, leading us in a subtle way to the last part of the ruin. Under the floor, the boy reveals mortal remains, but he's no more surprised than frightened. He starts disappearing in the air with a grateful smile, because it's his body and his sister's lying there, and bringing them to the sun has finally given them peace. He's glad too that what's on the walls is now back to the world. What he and his dear sister have painted while they were trapped there, before death came. Beautiful colored paintings covering the whole wall now in the sun, somehow like the Chapel Sixtin.
